The Palatine And The Colosseum

A while ago, Brent and I went to the Imperial Palace (the Palatine) and the Colosseum with Matt and Katie. Katie is one of my roommates and Matt is Brent's and, coincidentally, they're also dating.

Before any of that, though, here's a picture of the Tiber at night:

One of the many cats here:

The Circus Maximus:

Interesting fact about the Circus Maximus, the stairs/bleachers that surrounded it are underneath the surrounding hills but no one wants to dig them up because they might be "dangerous." Also, that's the Palatine behind the Circus Maximus.

This is apparently where Mario and Luigi retire to:

It's weird to think of how old this stuff must be:

My favorite picture of the day:

It's amazing to me how much you're allowed to touch stuff here. At home, this would all be behind velvet ropes with security guards wielding taser guns:

It was definitely a good day to have all the awesome camera lenses I got for my birthday!

Anyway, I'm way behind and need to blog more... but Brent and I are spending the weekend in Florence, so I don't know how much time I'll have. Maybe I can get another entry done on the train or something. Until then, enjoy!

WOW. The sheer size of the coliseum is awesome. Can you just picture it in its day? Were the gladiators in the coliseum or the circus maximus? I never saw Gladiator.
Also, the Tiber at night is very beautiful!

we can't get over the extrordinary amount of fabulous marble carved figires. There didnt seem to be that many in Greece. Poor cats, do you have anything to feed them? Great pictures!! We love to see them. P & G

I read somewhere that the cats in Rome are very well taken care of. They are not really stray -- everyone feeds them and takes care of them. Is that right?

I was also shocked in Mexico when they let all of the tourists climb all over the pyramids in Chichen Itza. It would never happen in the US, someone would fall and sue an ruin it for everybody.

Anyway, great photos and history lessons. I love it. Please find a Internet Cafe in Florence and keep us updated!
