Rest In Peace Squeaks

A few weeks ago, Brent and I were at Petco getting supplies for our bunnies when we saw two beautiful little pet mice who had been put in the "feeder tank" to get sold to horrible snake owners. We obviously couldn't allow this, so we took them home with us to live in the bunnies' old cage that they used while litter training as babies. We bought them all their food, bowls, a house to sleep in, toys, and chew sticks. They had the best setup of any mice I've ever seen, and Brent and I gave them the happiest lives we possibly could. Brent named his mouse Squeaky (Squeaks for short) and I named mine Minnie.

Isnn't she beautiful?

Well, as I'm sure you can tell by the title of this entry, little Squeaks has passed away. Right after getting our mice, they started sneezing and sniffling so I took them to the local emergency vet where they were diagnosed with $120 colds. Brent and I gave them all their medicine but I guess it just wasn't enough. Apparently any sort of respiratory illness in creatures as small as mice is usually fatal. We're also looking into the possibility that their bedding, Carefresh, might have had something to do with it. Carefresh is supposed to be the safest (and most expensive, of course) bedding to use for little critters so we thought we were giving them the very best of the best, however, now that we've lost Squeaks and I've been doing more directed research on Carefresh bedding and the negative side-effects on small animals, it seems that a number of people have lost their pets to this stuff. Apparently it can scar the lungs with its "dust" and, if ingested, almost definitely kills the pet. If only we had known this beforehand...

Needless to say, Minnie is no longer using Carefresh bedding and we're hoping that her cold symptoms will go away quickly.

Brent and I are taking Squeaks in her coffin to one of our favorite hiking spots today to find a good resting place for her.

Goodbye Squeaks, we'll miss you!

Squeaks was the best mouse ever. Tied with your Minnie, of course.

Squeaks had a good life with you and you're giving her the perfect resting spot. I hope the new bedding helps Minnie to get well.

That's disgusting. You two are so lucky they are dead. What's wrong with you?

MOM! We have to call Jeff Vonvondren and hold an Intervention! They've lost their minds? Letting all those unsanitary rodents into their dorm room. Ewww.

And she wonders why she's been sick for two weeks......

Minnie is not dead! And Squeaks was a very sweet little mouse!!

Squeaks was a great mouse. Not cool to be a jerk about people's dead pets.

Good grief. You two need run a farm. Preferably where there are lots of tornados..because that would make Lauren happy.
You could raise Llamas!

I think Candy Finnigan might be better suited for this one. (Jocelyn did you see the new episodes earlier this week? That alcoholic mother who drank mouthwash was one of the craziest of all the crazies they have had on that show.)

Yes, I did!! My favorite one is the woman who rides around in Limo's across the country with her cat getting wasted.
